Linke Index: Variant of 204B
Linke Title: Bahut Louis XV polis et mosaique satine
This important bombe shaped side cabinet or Bahut has a moulded marble top, above a parquetry inlaid drawer mounted with foliate gilt-bronze mounts, and below are two shaped cupboard doors. The cupboard doors are finely inlaid with foliate marquetry and framed by gilt-bronze encadrement and satine borders. The shallow apron is centred by a distinctive gilt bronze acanthus concave scallop-shell or coquille mount, a notable feature of Linke's work, perhaps even more of a guarantee than a signature.
Of particular interest are the sides of the cabinet, which are also of bombe shape, curving in two directions, and inlaid in parquetry. The cabinet is raised on cabriole legs with acanthus clasps.
