A rare 17th century oak child's chair or "little chayre" with a shaped crest rail, chevron carved back panel and with channel moulded uprights, legs and stretchers. The rear legs are chamfered at the bottom suggesting that it has not lost very much height. Lovely colour and patination.
See Tobias Jellinek "Early British Chairs and Seats 1500-1700" plate 172 for a similar example. Also Bonhams sale "The Oak Interior" lot 277 where a similar example fetched £5000.
