The purple clay vessel of shouldered tapering form, each panel crisply modelled with flowering hibiscus trees issuing from rockwork on an incised fretwork ground, the shoulder with an impressed ruji border, all terminating on bracket feet, the domed metal-mounted cover with a floral knot design.
In good condition except two small chips to cover.

A tea cannister of a similar design with peony may be found in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, `Purple sandy ware', Beijing 2008, p.139, cat no. 109.
Another similar tea cannister and cover was sold at Dazhong Auctions Ltd, Shanghai,lot 392, 16/12/2010.
