An extremely rare early 18th century mahogany centre table. The mahogany framed needlework top sits above a shaped frieze to the front and back, with a drawer to the front with an early kidney shaped ormolu escutcheon. The finely drawn spined cabriole legs join the frieze with exquisite carved double scrolls.
The colour, patina and density of the mahogany are sublime and exactly what one is excited to see on the best pieces of this very early period of mahogany. The period needlework is in marvellous condition and rich in its palette of colours.
"Gratitude is the sign of noble souls." The needlework depicts the image of the lion with his paw bandaged by Androcles.
