The Dish is oval in form with a deep base and raised sides decorated with applied beading. The base displays two beaded side handles attached to the main body with acanthus leaf mouldings. The high domed cover is engraved with an outer bright cut band and terminates in a silver and ivory finial. The finial is surrounded by another bright cut oval, identical to the outer border. The base and cover display a full set of crisp hallmarks and are both engraved with the contemporary initial "B" in script lettering. These Dishes are termed hash dishes, a mixture of meat and potato, however they could be used to serve a variety of foods at the table. This piece has a large deep base, so it hold a good quantity of food, as well as being decorative when not in use. Charles Wright was a prolific quality maker, who was apprentice to Thomas Whipham in 1747. He had workshops at 9, Ave Maria Lane, when this dish was made.
