The Soap Box stands on an circular cast spreading foot decorated with reeding. The body is globe shaped in form and the rim of the base and cover are decorated with an applied reeded band. The top of the cover is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by shells, as well as floral and foliate sprays. The Arms are those of Moore and are recorded as being used by three families of this name, Moore of Co. York, Moore of Berwick St. John and one John Moore, Bishop of Bangor from 1775 and Archbishop of Canterbury from 1783 until his death in 1805. |
