The Vinaigrette is oval in form and is engraved on the cover with a vacant central cartouche surrounded by a prick dot band, flanked by a floral and foliate spray. The sides are also decorated with prick dot bands and the base with a raying sunburst, which was one of the characteristics of the work of Phipps & Robinson. The interior displays exceptional gilding and a grille pierced with plain roundels. Phipps and Robinson made some of the earliest Vinaigrettes in London and it is most unusual to find an example which falls just into the eighteenth century.
