This unusual pair of Sèvres-Style jardinières are each of square section inset with finely painted porcelain panels depicting floral sprays and genre scenes in the manner of Boucher. The gilt-bronze mounts are finely cast with scrolling rocaille decoration, ‘C’-Scrolls and surmounted by bird finials and terminating in dolphin cast feet. The jardinières retain their original liners.
A closely related pair of jardinières with comparative gilt-bronze mounts were acquired at auction at Oxenhams in 1836 by the Regency collector George Bying for Wrotham Park. This pair of jardinieres have almost identical gilt-bronze mounts but contain lacquer rather than porcelain panels.
