The rectangular top in three sections, with a solid moulded edge. The frieze with a long, single drawer, the handle probably replaced in the 19th century. Standing on elegant, barley-twist legs, one with a brace and two with repairs to breaks. The legs joined by barley-twist stretchers on original toes. The carcass pine. Excellent original colour and patina

This table is of exceptionally rare, delicate and petite form. The overall proportion of the table is fluid and elegant, with the square top balanced and supported by the shapely, turnings which flow into the feet. The carpenter has moulded the edge of the top which enhances and balances the form. The barley-twist turnings, which were the latest fashion at the time, have the most delicate proportions, each one hand-turned by a master craftsman and bearing subtle differences. They give the table delicate elegance and fluidity, and balance the overall proportion of the piece. It has survived in excellent condition, and the minor repairs are consistent with use over time. The table has developed an outstanding, original lustrous, patinated surface. The gateleg has stood the test of time as ergonomic design, being used as an occasional, tea, gaming or centre tables.
