An extremely rare St James's figure group in the white by Charles Gouyn. In the past it was speculated that Charles Gouyn, one time senior partner at the Chelsea factory, could have been responsible for many of the 'girl in a Swing' class models. It was discovered in 1993 that with documentary evidence, that Gouyn was making porcelain at his premises in St James's Street. This has led to a radical re-valuation of the 'Girl in the swing' products.

The St James's factory output included a number of toys and figures. The figures are extremely rare and often left 'in the white'. They display a somewhat naïve modelling with characteristic 'Grecian' faces, however, their appeal emanates from a unique understanding of the porcelain material.

The present St James's figure group could have been inspired by pastoral scenes executed by the artist Francois Boucher.
