English circa 1810

This style of table is created in the boulle taste and was reintroduced by Gillows of Lancaster in the early 19th century. It follows the fashion later George 1V(1762-1830). A library table supplied by the firm of for grand French style furnishing popularised by the Prince Regent, Gillows to Hackwood Park, Hampshire in 1813 has similar brass inlaid decoration also made in the monumental style with over scale pilasters and supports.

Andre Charles Boulle(1642-1732) was the designer and maker of furniture richly inlaid with brass, tortoishell and ivory much of which was supplied to Louis XIV. A century after the death of the French King in 1715 it was reintroduced to the English court in the early 19th century as fashion became intensely ornamental.
