A painter of genre subjects, born at Brunswick in Germany, August was the son of Erich Niedman who was also a painter. He worked with Heinrich Brandes at Brunswick, W von Kaulback at Münich, but usually alone. He lived in Münich and works by him are held at the Museum at Breslau.
