The blades stamped Gibbs for Joseph Gibbs, cutler at the Half Moon and Star, New Bond Street. A Joseph Gibbs trade card of 1755 mentions the mounting of knives and forks in china and selling them in shagreen fitted cases and illustrates examples. This is a rare example of Saint Cloud porcelain that can be shown to have been in England in the mid 18th Century and retailed despite the official prohibition of their import.
Fourteen handles in good condition, six with cracks and four badly broken, nine of the small finishing caps missing.
