A superb George II silver coffee pot by the exceptional silversmith George Hindmarsh. Of tapering cylindrical form on a raised moulded. A cast octagonal spout with a wide flared mouth, a high raised lid with a depressed acron finial. Original scroll fruit wood handle with scroll silver mounts. Engraved with a crest of a bull's head to one side. (see photos)

Hallmarked for London 1752, by George Hindmarsh (Grimwade page 66 No. 807). Full set of hallmarks to the underneath and the lion passant to the inside of the lid. (see photos)

A scratch weight of 25"15 is marked to the base. The marks are clear and well struck with only very minimal rubbing to the maker's mark and the date letter.

This is an exceptionally rare & interesting example of George Hindmarsh's work, as like his partner for a few months, Robert Abercromby, he seems to have made practically nothing but salvers and waiters.

Height: 9 inches or 23cm

Width (handle to spout): 8 1/2 inches or 21.5cm

Weight (including handle): 27.7 oz or 785g
This is a very attractive, very early George II coffee pot in excellent original condition. The silver is of good thick gauge and of a lovely colour and patina. The wooden handle is firm and without damage and the lid fits extremely well.
