| Item Description / Dealer Expertise |
The Sauceboats stand on a cast collet foot which is decorated with applied beading. The main bodies have a tall baluster form and slightly narrowing pouring lip. The rim is also decorated with applied beading. The reeded loop handle is attached to the main body with acanthus foliage mouldings and the side of the main body is engraved with a contemporary Crest. Both Sauceboats are very well marked in the foot and are in excellent condition. Beaded Sauceboats are scarce and this design is particularly rare. Incidentally, because of their unusual nature, a near identical pair, with bright cut band, made by the same maker in 1783 are housed within the famous Sterling & Francine Clark Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, which houses one of the finest and largest collections of English silver outside of England. A copy of the page from their silver catalogue is shown. Walter Brind was a prominent quality maker who supplied the firm of Parker and Wakelin, who themselves supplied the Royal Collection of King George III. |
