The half pint Mug stands on an applied spreading foot decorated with reeding. The plain baluster shaped body has an everted rim and the scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping. The front of the main body is beautifully engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a floral and foliate spray cartouche. The base is very well marked and is engraved with its original scratch weight.

The Arms are those of Ives with Harvey in pretence, for John Ives 1730-1773 who married Elizabeth Harvey, the daughter and heiress of Peter Harvey, 1709-51, on the 18th June, 1760. Elizabeth Harvey was said in contemporary newspapers to have a fortune of more than £ 10,000. The Ives and the Harvey families, prosperous merchants in an around Norwich, intermarried several times. Thomas Harvey, the brother of Peter, and a Mayor of Norwich in 1748, had married Lydia, the daughter of Jeremiah Ives, Mayor of Norwich in 1733. The Mug is in excellent condition, with a good colour.
