The Mug stands on an applied stepped circular spreading foot. The baluster shaped main body rises to an everted rim and the scroll handle is decorated with leaf capping. The front is engraved with a contemporary shield shaped Armorial with tied ribbons above and a banner engraved with a motto below. The Arms are surrounded by a cartouche of beautiful trailing floral and foliate sprays. William Grundy made very fine mugs and this example is of a very good weight and gauge. The base displays a crisp set of hallmarks.
