The Egg Cruet has an unusual oval form and is made for six egg cups. The oval frame stands on four ball feet and has six Classical column legs, with paw feet. The gadrooned rim encloses the cages which keeps each of the egg cups and spoons in place. This piece also has a very unusual carrying handle, with fan shaped area below. Each egg cup stands on a reeded pedestal foot and the classical vase shaped body displays a protruding girdle to hold it in the cage and an everted gadrooned rim. Each cup is very well marked and displays a gilded interior. The cruet also possesses six Old English pattern egg spoons which were made in London by the specialist flatware makers William Eley, William Fearn & William Chawner. It is usual for the spoons to have been made by a flatware maker and they would have been brought in by Richard Cooke to finish off the frame. The Cruet is very well marked and in excellent condition. Richard Cooke was a very fine maker and he was known for semi Classical inspiration in his designs. He supplied the leading Royal retailers, Rundell & Co, as well as Jeffery's, Jones & Gilbert.
