The Snuffer Tray is oval in form with a raised beaded edge and two unusual reeded side carrying handles. The centre of the Tray is engraved with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a bead and bluebell cartouche. The Tray is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse. The Armorial is that of the Fletcher family of County Cumberland. These Trays would have been used to stand a pair of Snuffer Scissors on when not in use. John Schofield was an exceptional maker who was patronised by George III and his son, The Prince of Wales, later George IV.
