A very good pair of George II cast silver table candlesticks. The square shaped bases with shell form decoration to the corners, the fluted tapering column with a circular knop above which is a shaped knop. Conforming shell form sconces.

Marks to the base for London 1759 by William Cripps, one sconce marked with the Lion passant, the other mark rubbed. Both sticks also carry the French important mark of a weevil which shows that at some point early in their life they were taken to France and then another time returned to this country. Both sconces and both candlesticks carry the import mark. (see pictures below for details)

Height: 9.75 inches or 25cm
Size of base: 4.5 x 4.5 inches or 11.5 cm sq.
Weight: 1250g or 44 oz.
Both sticks are in superb original condition without any signs of damage or repair and both of them stand true on a table top. The marks to the bases are very clear as is the marked one of the sconces. French import marks all clear to both sticks and sconces. Very fine pair of 18th C candlesticks in superb condition, with an interesting French connection!
