A very fine pair of gilt-bronze mounted Sèvres style porcelain and onyx pedestals of tapering form, the bases fronted by a mask of Hercules, each uniquely decorated with maidens and putti in a sunset landscape.
Charles Labarre was a celebrated French porcelain painter active in the 1890’s. He has been recorded as working at Sèvres and at Doulton‘s Burslem Factory in England. He notably was the painter of the ‘Columbus Vase’, shown by Doulton & Co. at the World's Columbian Exhibition in Chicago in 1893.
