This attractive pair of sauceboats are of large rounded form, the shaped body with curving gadrooned decoration with a gadrooned rim. Scrolling handle is decorated with an acanthus thumbpiece and applied shell decoration where it joins the rim. Both engraved under the rim with identical initials 'MM' (see pictures). All standing on a shaped, cast pedestal foot.

Clearly hallmarked for London 1758 with the maker’s mark Henry Dutton. each sauceboat has a scratch weight underneath.


This highly attractive pair of sauceboats are of exceptional weight and gauge with a lovely patina.

Weight – sauceboat 2: 627g or 20.16ozT (22.12oz)



Overall weight: 1263g or 40.6ozT (44.55oz)
Overall these sauceboats are in good condition. Both sauceboats have some patches and bruising to the body. Marks are very clear and well struck.
Note: Pedestal form sauceboats were revived from the early eighteenth century about 1760. They were usually of a heavy gauge of silver with a deeper body.

Henry Dutton's mark was entered 16th December 1754 as a large worker
