THESE CUPBOARDS WERE MOSTLY OF CONTINENTAL ORIGIN AND IT IS VERY RARE TO FIND AN ENGLISH EXAMPLE IN REMARKABLY ORIGINAL CONDITION. AS WOLSEY AND LUFF DESCRIBE ON PAGE 40 OF FURNITURE OF ENGLAND, THE AGE OF THE JOINER, THESE CUPBOARDS WHERE MADE FOR THE HALL OR DINING PARLOUR, THE BOTTOM BOARD FOR HOLDING THE EWER AND BASIN WHICH FORMED PART OF THE RITUAL OF LATE MEDIEVAL AND TUDOR MEALS.

A RARE AND WONDERFUL EXAMPLE WITH GOOD COLOUR AND PATINATION. STAMPED TO LOWER FRONT I.B. REAR LEFT FOOT REPAIR.
