A very rare William III britannia silver lighthouse caster, London 1698. Britannia Standard, with a turned and fluted finial to the domed, pierced cover engraved with scrolls and flowers with bayonet fixing mounts. The main body of the caster is plain with applied bands to the rim and body. All standing on a lobed, fluted foot. Crest to side, see pictures.

Hallmarked for London 1698 by Andrew Raven. Maker's mark to the body and lid.

Of excellent gauge, well proportioned design and a beautiful lid with pierced design surmounted with a lovely final. The overall patina is very nice. It sits true and apart from a little rubbing to the hallmarks, is in excellent condition.

This is an attractive caster, very similar to the Joseph Ward caster, also listed, slightly plainer on the body with a narrower band, pretty decoration to the lid and a very nice finial. Fractionally taller than the Ward caster and slightly heavier. Lovely patina and slightly less rubbing to the hallmarks. Again another very good example of a William III silver caster. Offers for the pair will be considered.

This is a lovely caster of museum quality.
