A Victorian four light candelabrum centrepiece, London 1841, makers mark of John Mortimer & John Samuel Hunt. Retailed by Mortimer & Hunt.
Bearing the model number 224. Fully hallmarked to each separate piece including base, supports, central finial and branches.
The candelabrum on triangular base resting on three scrolling shell feet, decorated with ribbons, thistles and roses for Scotland and England. The base beneath three scrolling acanthus supports adorned with rose wreaths, surmounted by three Bacchic cherubs they in turn support the four light branches. The bases with Order of The Garter crest and motto for Major General Sir Robert Arbuthnot. Also with presentation inscription which reads; “Presented to Major General Sir Robert Arbuthnot K.C.B. & K.T.S by his friends in Ceylon as a tribute of their regard & esteem on his departure from that colony to be placed on the staff of the Indian Army April 1841”
