The jacket is handstitched, with the top being padded and quilted,and lined in wool. The shoulder buttons bear the legend "Peninsula 76 Hindoostan" obviously commemorating some of the Regiment's campaigns and back marked JW Reynolds & Co London
This uniform was probably made for Lt A A D Weigall, whose Regiment was the 57th (West Middlesex). Lt Weigall was gazetted Lt Colonel on November 28 1876, and died during the Regiment's campaign on the North West Frontier.
