A very nice quality Victorian silver soap box. The lid is engraved with a scene of waterfowl taking off from water with rushes, trees and birds in the background. The interior of the box is silver-gilt. Made by Thomas Johnson and hallmarked in London in 1858.
The box is in good condition. It opens and closes well. There are fine scratches to the surface and silver-gilt interior consistent with age and use. There are a full set of hallmarks clearly struck on the inside on the base and part marks well struck on the inside of the lid. The engraving is good quality and the box is a nice weight.
