A Victorian rectangular Vesta Case, London 1887, Wright and Davies, with retailer's name 'Percy Edwards & Co., 71 Piccadilly'. The inside of the lid has a sliding panel which reveals a 'secret' photograph frame with contemporary image of a young woman. The base is engraved with a monogram 'A L H W' and the lid with the Prince of Wales' crest and motto, suggesting perhaps that the original owner was a member of one of the Prince of Wales' regiments.

Wright and Davies supplied high quality small silverwork to most of the best known London retailers of the period.
This vesta, with concealed panel, is of a form which is not usually found until the 1890's.
Some wear and staining to the gilt interior and some surface marking from use. It has crisp corners and is of good weight and overall condition.
