A Village Shop represents the feeling that all life is sacrificial. It's killing night at a butcher's shop in a nice old-fashioned village. The slaughter man is carrying on his work and an old woman is being served by the butcher. A little innocent child is standing looking on; a dog and a cat are also there, the cat looking at the dog from a window sill. Then in a tree close by is a carrion crow. There are likewise circles with indications of the cycles of time, and there is a shadowy cloud figure with pinions in an attitude as if imploring the heavens for help. |
