, 264pp. Full calf, semi-raised bands, spine in six panels, title label to second panel, remaining panels with central quadrilobe device in blind, bands bordered by gilt single fillet, covers with gilt single fillet bordering an anthemion roll frame in blind. Spine slightly faded, running around on to upper cover, bottom corners bumped and worn, minor rubbing to extremities. Internally some light offsetting to plates as often, portrait frontispiece offset to title, occasional light foxing and soiling mainly to margins, stain to bottom margin of E3v, the chart at page 179 has had a small hole repaired, with one fold strengthened to reverse, but generally quite bright and clean. Previous owner's armorial bookplate to front pastedown (Emily Mercer - Lansdowne). Complete with portrait frontispiece and seven (five folding) maps / plates. Hill calls it "an extremely important book. This is the first edition of the official account of the Bounty expedition ... rather ironically, after Bligh returned to Tahiti for more breadfruit plants and delivered them to the West Indies, it was discovered that the inhabitants there did not care for the taste, much preferring their own bananas" (Hill); Hill 135; Ferguson 125; Taylor 5; NMM Voyages 624; Cox II:305
