Léon Richet initially studied in Valenciennes and after in Paris where he was a student of Narcisse Diaz de La Pena. Richet’s best landscapes are those inspired by Diaz and set in and around the forest of Fontainebleau; influenced by the Barbizon School his works focus on interpreting nature through the use of delicate tonal shades. Richet began exhibiting in the Paris Salons in 1869, today his work is in the collections of several notable museums.
