This is a coloured mezzotint commissioned in 1924 by The Museum Galleries, London, to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and Nelson's death in 1805. It is taken from the original oil painting by Francis Abbott which now hangs in the Greenwich Maritime Museum. The engraver commissioned was Will Henderson who has signed it in pencil in the lower margin. It is inscribed in the plate in the upper margin "Published 1924 by The Museum Galleries, 19 Sports Gardens, Drury Lane, London WC2. Copyright"
Good. Some minor foxing on outer border. PLEASE NOTE: This item is offered unmounted and unframed at the price stated but inclusive of delivery within the UK. The outer dimension of the paper on which it is printed is 18.5 x 15 inches.
From the Howell Family who owned The Museum Galleries. I have six copies available which have been in store for many years and never been framed. The colour condition is excellent.
