A lovely portrait miniature of a young lady with dark curling hair, held on the top of her head and cascading down in curls. She is wearing a white dress with a square neckline edged in lace and gold earrings. She has light brown eyes and lovely translucent complexion. There is a billowing orange curtain and classical pillar in the background accentuating her pale complexion.

Watercolour on ivory in an oval gold plated frame the reverse with curls of hair on top of opalescent glass and a blue glass lozenge with her initials "HB".

Alexander Gallaway (fl 1794-1812)

Gallaway was born and lived in Scotland in Glasgow and later Edinburgh. His clients were the upwardly mobile and from the theatre. Examples of his work can be found in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
