Music is the theme of this late 18th Century, English, neo Classical chimney piece, beautifully sculpted in white statuary marble. The breakfront moulded tiered shelf breaks over the jambs; the frieze is centred with an oblong tablet, and is sculpted with crossed, ribbon tied horns and overlaid with Pan's graduated pipes, the Syrinx. Flanked by panels with circular flower paterae draped with swags of inverted flower heads upheld at the sides by ribbons tied around circular hooks, the ends falling from the same to the sides. The pilaster jambs decorated with inverted, seeding flower head drops falling from ribbon bows. The whole raised on foot blocks.
