Of tondo form, constructed in hand carved walnut, the ogee swept frame enclosing a naturalistic carving of avian subjects in vine foliage, grapes, figs and pineapple. An early ink inscription on the obverse, ‘T.Kendall, Warwick’ records the artist.

Thomas Henry Kendall (1837 - 1919) was an apprentice of James Morris Wilcox and after Wilcox's death in 1859 Kendall’s father acquired the Warwickshire based business. Kendall exhibited at the 1862 International Exhibition and was awarded two medals for his work.
