Burrell (1770 Prussia - after 1834 London) was a son of a Prussian military officer. After he moved with his family to London, Burrell studied and (between 1801-1807) exhibited at the Royal Academy. His early exhibited works were landscapes, but in 1807, he showed a miniature. From that point onwards, he made more miniatures. He often portrayed his sitter's seated in a three-quarter length pose as is the case here. The extreme attention to detail in the costume is one of Burrell's highest skills.
Good although Minor loss of paint at 3 o'clock on the red curtain.
