The moulded Breccia Rosato top over a finely carved frieze of strapwork and paterae supported by four cabriole legs carved with anthemion and acanthus terminating in scrolled feet.

The frame stamped W/H
The carving and workmanship on this table is of the highest quality and this, coupled with the use of dense mahogany and perfect balance of design, is indicative of a St Martins Lane cabinetmaker. It is tempting to speculate that the initials W.H carved into the rail may be those of WIlliam Hallett. Certainly the overall quality of this piece is consistent with his work.
The Phipps Famil yTrust
Henry Phipps, Jr. emigrated to the U.S in the early 19th Century and settled in Pittsburgh. He was Andrew Carnegie's business partner in Carnegie Steel Company and became a very wealthy man as the company's second largest shareholder and investments in real estate.
