The box is broad rectangular in form with slightly domed top and rounded ends. This example is also parcel gilt, which is where the gilding is partially engraved away to reveal the silver below and therefore a beautiful two coloured effect occurs. The cover, base and sides are engraved with unusual flower heads, foliate bands and Classical designs. The base also displays an oval bright cut cartouche containing a very unusual Neo-Classical urn draped in a foliate garland. The top, most unusually, displays an enamel oval medallion executed to the highest standard and depicting a beautiful Neo-Classical Urn surrounded by a gold frame decorated with blue roundels. The box opens up to reveal a velvet lined interior. The box is unmarked, which is not surprising as a set of hallmarks on the exterior would spoil the designs. It is possible that if the velvet was removed that there may be a set of marks on the interior.
