This exceptional piece has a trowel shaped blade, with feather edge border, which is pierced and engraved with a symmetrical pattern of scrolling foliage, flower heads and unusual stylised strawberries. The centre also displays a very unusual two handled vase reserve. The cast handle is attached to the blade with a pierced heart shaped moulding and is decorated on the stem with lobes. The pierced end displaying a stylised raying foliate motif. The Trowel is in excellent condition and is very well marked on the reverse. This is the first time we have seen this specific design and this piece is illustrated in "Investing in Silver", by Eric Delieb, page 126. Aldridge & Green were some of the finest piercers working in London at this date.
