This quite exceptional spoon is modelled in the Hanoverian pattern and is of a large size and was most probably used as a "Hash" spoon. The reverse of the bowl is beautifully decorated with a very crisp raying shell motif and is very well marked. The top of the stem is engraved with an unusual contemporary Crest of a bound bunch of asparagus, with script initials below. The gauge and weight of this piece is exceptional and this example has a very good bowl and colour. Elias Cachart was a specialist spoon maker of very fine quality and was probably the largest manufacturer of spoons and forks at this date. A rare and exceptionally fine piece "Shell Back" example.
