This beautiful Neo-Classical Cruet Stand is "Boat" shaped in form and stands on four cast hoof feet which are attached to the main body with tri-furcated mouldings. The sides rise to a beaded rim and are pierced with trailing scroll work and flower heads in ovals. The two scroll side handles are attached to the main body with shell mouldings. The Classically inspired bottle cages unscrew and can be removed for cleaning. They have a double beaded rim and three column supports with a foliate base and flower head medallion at the top. The faceted cut glass oil and vinegar bottles have beaded scroll handles and neck mounts, which are also engraved with prick dot designs. The hinged bottle covers have a bright cut border, shell thumb piece and are also engraved with a contemporary Crest. The Cruet is in excellent condition and is fully marked on the underside of the base and on the underside of the removable cages, one with the sterling mark and the other with the sterling mark and maker's mark. The work of James Young is scarce and always of the finest quality.
