The Jug is modelled in the Classical "Helmet" form. This piece stands on a circular beaded pedestal foot and the vase shaped body also rises to a beaded rim. The reeded loop handle is attached to the main body with a bi-furcated moulding. Most interestingly, both sides display an oval cast Neo-Classical medallion, the subjects taken from Classical Antiquity. This was a decorative feature favoured by Andrew Fogelberg working either alone or with Stephen Gilbert. They are based on the Tassie paste gems popular in England at this date. The Jug is of a very good weight and gauge and is fully marked under the pouring spout. An identical example by the same makers, and dated 1780, is illustrated in "Adam Silver", by Robert Rowe. This piece is now in the Collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London The Jug in the V&A has the same medallions as the one we offer.

Height: 6 inches, 15cm.
Length, handle to spout: 4.7 inches, 11.75cm.
Width: 2.75 inches, 6.88cm.
Weight: 9oz.
