The Dish is of a large size and is oval in form, with two reeded bi-furcated handles which are attached to the main body with acanthus foliate mouldings. The rim is decorated with an applied beaded band, as are the sides enclosing various beautiful hand sawn pierced bands. This is some of the finest piercing we have seen on a piece of this date and it is in excellent condition. The front also displays a square cartouche, engraved with a contemporary Crest. The unusual Crest depicts a greyhound running through the Prince of Wales feathers. This is the Crest as used by the Peppard family of Cappagh House, County Limerick, Ireland. They were an ancient Irish family originally settled in County Louth. The Crest is most probably that of Standish Peppard Esquire of Cappagh House. The stepped, domed, pull off cover terminates in an unusual cast finial and is also pierced with stylised quatrefoil motifs. The dish is in excellent condition, has a clear glass liner, and is fully marked on both the base and cover.
