The twelve George II Teaspoons and Sugar Nips are cast and are made in the Hanoverian Pattern. The front of each of the stems displays beautiful cast decoration depicting the God of Light and Sun, Apollo, draped in flowing robes. He holds a Lyre in one hand which was created for him by Hermes and the instrument became a common attribute of Apollo. He also holds a bow in his other hand, as his first triumph was to slew the serpent Python. The figure is surrounded by Rococo scroll work and shell details. The reverse is engraved with a Crest issuing from the Coronet of a Duke and, most unusually, the reverse of the bowl is chased with a wicker basket of flowers, contained within a teardrop surround. The Nips have shell grips and the arms are beautifully chased with scroll work. The central boss is also decorated with Apollo, as seen on the Spoons. This is the first time we have ever seen this decoration on a complete set of spoons, unusually still together with their original nips. The spoons are marked with the maker's mark and the nips with the maker's mark and sterling mark. An extremely rare set.

Length of Spoons: 4.5 inches, 11.25cm.
Length of Nips: 5 inches, 12.5cm.
