An Important and Unusual Egyptian Style Suite in Padouk wood, Comprising a Canape, Two Armchairs and a Table.

The 'Gout D'Egypte', was briefly popular among English and French designers in the wake of Napoleon's 1798 Egyptian campaign and was revived in the second half of the Nineteenth Century. Pointer, Long and Alma-Tadema all exhibited Egyptian subject pictures at the Royal Academy from the 1860's and furniture designs in an eclectic Egyptian manner were produced during the following decades by Goodwin, Batley, Moyr Smith and Christopher Dresser amongst others.
