In 1807 Thomas Hope published his illustrated folio entitled Household Furniture and Interior Decorations, with designs strictly adhering to original antique forms minimally altered for "modern" use. The following year George Smith, Hope's disciple, began his series of publications, A Collection of Designs for Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, in the most Approved and Elegant Taste which was well-received and continued through the late 1820's. Monopodia supports of all variations can be seen in the designs by these two men. The shapes are almost always architectural, sturdy and massive, if not monumental.
