The large conical vase boldly painted with rose blooms on a painterly ground, above a tiered chartreuse cover with moulded rim of foliate motifs gilded and with decorative knop, the conical stepped base below with further gilt moulded bands and panels on a bordeaux and chartreuse ground.

Royal Bonn started in 1836 by Franz Anton Mehlem, who owned a pottery business in Bonn, Germany. Mehlem produced European porcelain under the trade name ‘Royal Bonn’ until the factory was bought by Villeroy & Bosch on June 1st 1920 and subsequently shut in 1931. Many marks for Royal Bonn were used, amongst them are a monogram-and-tower on exported pottery, the name ‘Bonn’, the initials 'FM', and a crown. In 1890 both ‘Royal’ and ‘1755’ were added to the pottery mark and were used continuously until 1920.
