wearing blue uniform with silver braid and buttons, orange collar, black stock and white cravat
Set in a gold frame, the reverse with blue glass

The portrait can be dated to 1798, or after, at which time the regiment adopted the Prussian Eagle as its badge and changed the facings of the uniforms from yellow to orange, the colour of the livery of the King of Prussia.

It is likely that the sitter would have been involved in duties that the Regiment performed during the Peninsula War 1808-1814.
This is a particularly fine example of Shelley's work and in excellent condition
