The rectangular case inset with a finely painted plaque depicting a shepherdess in a rural landscape, the reverse with an indistinct puce mark of Edouard Honoré

Little is known about the French clockmaker and bronzier Raingo. The company itself became Raingo Frères in 1825 and thereafter clocks bear their signature with various Paris addresses. The firm specialised in clockmaking in Empire and Restoration style. The house supplied bronzes to the Emperor and his wife in the 1860s. Initially specialised in the reproduction of classic arts, they mordernised their works using models from contemporary artists such as Pradier, Carrier-Belleuse and Auguste Moreau. They also collaborated with important cabinet makers, in particular François Linke. The firm exhibited at many of the important exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century and was known for the fine quality of its ormolu.
