The vitrine with mirrored back and single glass shelf, above a recess and flanked to each side by a pair of drawers below arches, on a leather topped desk stand with three drawers on four cabriole legs mounted with ormolu shells to the top running down to paw feet

The Grohé Freres worked together from 1829 to 1861, Guillaume then continued alone until his death. They were suppliers to many kings and emperors such as King Louis-Philippe, Emperor Napoléon III and Empress Eugénie. The duc d’Aumale commissioned most of the furniture for the chateau de Chantilly from them. They participated with great success in the 19th Century exhibitions from 1834 to 1878 and Guillaume became a member of the jury for the Universal Exhibitions, leading to him becoming vice president of the 1878 Exhibition in Paris.
